Imphal, July 05 2011:
Smart dogs from other states and countries are finding their place in the state with more and more people owning them to guard their houses and properties.
Dog trainer Thongram Sanatomba of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai who is raring 10 different breeds including German Shepherd, Tangkhul Dog and Russian Dog in an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao said that he has been studying in the field of dog training and dog psychology since 2006 .
Sanatomba said that dog which has a high Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) can predict natural disasters like earthquake and tsunami and tell others by barking running here and there.
People often ignored such signals given by them and become victims of such disasters.
He is now training a dog called Bhujo of St Bernard breed.
Bhujo is a calm and sober dog.
The St.
Bernard is a breed of very large working dog from the Italian and Swiss Alps, originally bred for rescue.
The breed has become famous through tales of alpine rescues, as well as for its large size.
The dog is owned by one Sarungbam Krishnapremi of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
Krishnapremi bought the dog for Rs 40,000 from Bangalore a year ago when it was only two months old.
Even though the dog has high ESP it needs to be trained properly to use maximum its maximum skills.
Bhujo consumes a kg of rice a day along with boiled meat.
Bhujo's owner is spending a minimum of Rs 1000 every month.
It takes Sanatomba half an hour daily to give a bath to Bhujo, applying oil and combing his hair.
Sanatomba has been training Bhujo since the last three months.
Bhujo can cross roads at Zebra crossing when the traffic is clear.
No one can enter his house when Bhujo is set free in night.
Around 50 dogs are being imported in the state every month with people realizing their values even though they cost a fortune to the poor people of the state.
Unfortunately most of the dogs died since their owner failed to tend them with proper care.
Normal life expectancy of the dogs is 20 to 25 years.
However in the state most of the dogs live for only 10 to 15 years.
Sanatomba said that such costly dogs need to run for at least 10 km everyday to remain healthy.
