Ningol Chakkouba greetings

Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh have extended greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba festival, 2013, which is to be celebrated tomorrow.
In his message to the people, Dr Ashwani said that this unique festival of the Meiteis, Ningol Chakkouba, observed on the 2nd day of the new moon of Hiyangei of the Meitei calendar, strengthens family relationship and bond of love and affection between brothers and married sisters.
It is heartening to know that this festival is becoming popular among other communities also and they are joining in its celebration.
Chief Minister O Ibobi observed that Ningol Chakkouba is one of the grandest festivals of Manipur which celebrates the unbreakable bond of love between brothers and sisters, and which reinforces the care and affection of the parents for their daughters.
The significance of the festival is such that though originally observed amongst the Meitei community; the festival has now extended to other communities and tribes in Manipur, thereby, reinforcing unity amidst diversity in the State.
"Let Ningol Chakkouba further strengthen the bond of unity and promote the feelings of peaceful co-existence and harmonious social life by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection", the Chief Minister wished.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister and MPCC President Gaikhangam, Major General Rajeev Chopra, IG AR (South) and All Ranks of Assam Rifles, President of Bharatiya Janata Party Manipur Pradesh Thounaojam Chaoba Singh, State Secretary of Manipur State Council CPI Dr M Nara Singh, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), etc have also extended greetings for Ningol Chakkouba to the people of Manipur.
