Inferno razes six hotels, a pan shop

Imphal, March 28 2011:
Six rice hotels and a pan shop were were gutted in a fire at North AOC this evening around 6 pm, reducing estimated properties worth over ' 7 lakh to ashes.
The burnt hotels were standing in a row along the Naga Nullah at North AOC and belonged to Nemnem Kipgen of Senapati's Pudunamei village, Langam Ambrapati of Kiyam, Elangbam Ranjit of Khurai Ahongei, Landhoni Devi of Thangmeiband, while the pan shop belonged to Sh Nungshi Devi of Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai.
Owners of the other two hotels could not be known immediately.
Twenty fire fighters of Imphal Fire Service Station with three fire tenders were put into service and it took about one and half hours to douse the fire.
A Honda Activa scooter was also burnt, reports said.
Most people believed that the fire broke out from the hotel of Landhoni located at western side of the row.
However, some others suggested that the inferno might have originated from garbage burnt by the local residents nearby the hotels on the western fringe.
No causalities
have been reported.
