Senapati, January 25 2015:
On the occasion of the celebration of 5th National Voters Day at the DRDA conference hall organized by Election Department, Government of Manipur, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jacintha Lazarus, while addressing as the Chief Guest revealed that Senapati District has 18,000 fake voters, the highest in the state of Manipur.
According to a report by The Hornbill Express, the DC while analyzing the reason behind such swelling amount of fake voters however said the enrolment of large number of voters might have not been intentional on the part of the village authorities.
The cause of the inflated numbers was due to the trend of migration from one village to another village and the non-deletion of the names of the migrating population from the previous electoral rolls and new enrollment into the new villages, the DC said.
She said "It is due to this error, new enrollment for the youths in the districts has not been made possible" .
During the programme, the DC also interacted with the young participants.
The programme under the banner "Proud to be a Voter- Ready to vote" concluded with instruction to the four campus ambassadors selected from various colleges of Senapati District.
Similar National Voters day observation was also held for three sub-divisions of Tadubi, Purul and Paomata.
Tadubi SDO Ganguiliu Gangmei and Paomata SDO David Kashungnao observed the day in their respective offices along with village leaders, youth and women.
