Congratulating the Assam Rifles which will celebrate its 183rd Anniversary tomorrow, Governor Najma Heptulla today said that the oldest para-military force in the country has been serving the people of North East in difficult terrain with an unflagging spirit.
"They have been rendering their services to our country by guarding our North Eastern frontiers, maintaining internal security and immensely contributing towards peace and development in the North Eastern States," said the Governor in a message.
The selfless contributions made by the AR to maintain peace and prosperity of the region deserve appreciation.
"I am confident that in the coming years too, they will continue to serve this region in the interest of National security and economic development with sincerity and utmost devotion to their duty" added the Governor.
CM N Biren too joined the Governor in wishing the Assam Rifles.
In a message, the CM said, "The AR raised as Cachar Levy in 1835 is the oldest Central Para Military Force in India.
The Force, which has now 46 battalions, has been discharging its duties in CI Operations and Border Management of Indo-Myanmar Border in an exemplary manner." The indomitable spirit, humane approach and dedication of the Assam Rifles soldiers have resulted in containing insurgency with a healing touch to the populace of Manipur as well as North East Region, added the CM.
The DGAR Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan has also complimented all ranks for their patriotism, professionalism and devotion to duty.
In a statement, the DGAR said, "Our Force, since its inception has repeatedly demonstrated its credibility by executing difficult operations, displaying a high degree of proficiency, alacrity and discipline.
It is the epitome of courage and bravery in the extremely remote and inhospitable terrain of the North East" .
The DG extended his warm greetings and best wishes to all ranks, civilians and family members of the Assam Rifles.
