Imphal, July 21 2012:
The law and order situation in the hill areas of the state has developed by 80% over the last few years, expressed Nunglung Victor, MLA, Chandel A/C .
Speaking to media persons at his official quarter at Lamphel today, Nunglung Victor pointed out that at one point of time, the law and order situation in the hill areas of the state was in its worst conditions due to presence of a number of UG groups.
However, with initiation of peace talks by the Central and the State government with the NSCN-IM and signing of Suspension of Operation (SoO) with other Kuki militant groups, the situation has improved to a great extent.
The rate of crimes and unwanted incidents happening in the hill areas have also decreased drastically over the last few years and as such the people of the hills are now able to live peacefully, he claimed.
Expressing discontentment over the decision of the state and the Central government over selecting the site near Moreh road in Khudengthabi as goods dumping ground in view of the Trans Asian Highway which is proposed to be extended into Manipur, the MLA said that the decision was not right and the authority concerned should select another suitable site.
Chandel, being a border area, the government should take up development programmes through proper inspection.
The Ibobi led government and his Council of Ministers should find out ways and means for developing Chandel, the MLA demanded.
The MLA assured that as the newly elected MLA of Chandel A/C, he would do his level best to keep in touch with the common people in all matters.
As a part of this strategy, the MLA said, he has inspected the paddy fields in Chandel which are drying up due to deficient rainfall.
Almost 75 percent the paddy fields in the district have become dry due to lack of water.
All the roads and bridges in the constituency would be also be developed and the required doctors and nurses would be posted at various health centres of the district.
