Malaria Office refutes report

Reacting to the report published in this daily on July 19, district Malaria Officer, Imphal East has clarified that payment of remuneration to contractual staff cannot be made till date due to need for conforming to procedural necessities.
For implementation of various activities under the National Vector Borne Disease Control (NVBDC) programme in the State including payment of remuneration of contractual staff, funds are released by the Government of India to the Manipur State NVBDC through the National Rural Health Mission, said the District Malaria Officer (DMO) in a statement issued today.
As the fund for the second instalment for 2011-12 are yet to be received by the district societies, no payment of remuneration was possible to the contractual staff concerned, the statement informed.
Regarding use of expired Deltamethrin for impregnation of community-owned bed-nets in the district, the DMO claimed that inspite of the said programme not carried out routinely this year due to shortage of the chemical, there is no question of using expired Deltamethrin for the March 30, 2012 indent of 35 litres received by the district from the State Malaria buffer stock is supposed to expire in April next year.
on the report about non observance of Anti Malaria Month, the DMO said inaugural function of the observance was held on July 29, 2011 at the Porompat office premises of Chief Medical Officer.
However, the observance was delayed last year due to belated release of relevant fund, clarified the statement that also conveyed that for this year the same observance is yet to commence as fund release is yet to materialise.
Malathion fogging is not included as a routine activity due to health hazard caused by it.
