Kapok Hangni festival of Maram people

Imphal, July 21 2012:
59 Mountain Brigade Commander Brig SK Sharma inaugurated Kapok Hangni, the biggest traditional festival of Maram people, at Taphou Naga village in Senapati district.
The Brigadier inaugurated the event with the kicking off of a football match.
The Commander while speaking at the event assured for all possible help to the villagers.
Later, people gathered together to sing, dance and took feast together to celebrate the festival.
The festival marked thanking of the God for blessing its people with successful plantation of paddy plants.
It was also to pray the God for the protection of the paddy plants from storms and flood, for a good harvest, and also to promise the God to offer 1/10th of its harvest.
