NORAD scheme: 2500 women to be benefited

The Norwegian Agency for International Development (NORAD) scheme which is being implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development would be able to provide services to around 2500 women of the state who have no means of livelihood.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, G Satyabati, Director, Social Welfare Department, informed that since its implemented in Manipur in 1997, many women have been benefited from this scheme.
Initially, the state government could not bring a large number of women under the ambit of the scheme as the fund provided was minimal at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per annum.
However, the fund sanctioned under the scheme has been enhanced to Rs 20 lakhs annually, and as such a fairly large number of women would be benefited from NORAD scheme, she observed.
G Satyabati further informed that a number of NGOs based in Manipur has been selected for implementation.
The scheme would be targeting women living below poverty line by giving them trainings to enable them to be self employed.
During the training period, they would also be given monthly stipend.
The trainings to be imparted include weaving, embroidery, tailoring, computer, Mosquito Net Making, Typing and Short Hand, Cane and Bamboo, Jewellery and Food Processing.
The trainees would also be provided necessary equipments.
It is said that the benefit under the scheme would be given to be selected women beneficiaries through Manipur State Women's Development Corporation.
