Medical negligence: 3-feet long bandage released in stool of operated patient

In a bizarre incident of exposing yet another case of total negligence of the medical professionals, a woman patient who had been operated for a mere stone accumulation in Gall Bladder released a 3-feet long bandage in her stool.
The woman who has become the latest victim of gross medical negligence in the State has been identified as Thangjam ongbi Tombimacha Devi (66), wife of Pishak from Tentha Khunou Awang Leikai in Thoubal district.
At a press meet held at the residence of the patient today, Nilo, son of Tombimacha, narrated that her mother was hospitalized at Langol View and Charitable Clinic, Lamphel on April 22 last.
At the advice of the doctor, she was admitted to the clinic for a surgical operation on April 24 at 11 am to remove stone accumulated in her Gall Bladder.

Surgeon Dr.Joykumar took out the stone in the operation and discharged the patient on April 29 .
Even after discharge from the clinic and follow-up medical check-up done twice on May 31 and July 7, the condition of the patient did not improve; Nilo said and informed that his mother was readmitted to the hospital on July 16 and Dr.Amitkumar took ultrasound on her body.
Suspecting cancer ailment and emergency case, the doctors at Langol View clinic referred her to RIMS for further treatment, the patient's son stated, while informing that on July 19, one Dr.Ranita again conducted an operation and took out a piece of the inner organ from her body for investigation at Babina Diagnostics.
As indicated by the result, the doctor said it was a case of Hernia and declared that the patient was at last stage with formation of tumour.
She was discharged on July 30 without any advice for medication, the son narrated.
Unhappy over the medical negligence, the aggrieved family members have appealed to the Government for conducting an inquiry into the matter within five days for taking up necessary action against the doctors concerned and warned of launching various intense agitations with the support of the civil society organisations if the demand is not met.
