Imphal, June 26 2020:
Congress MLA Kh Joykisan has alleged that it was the four NPP MLAs and some BJP MLAs which misled and dragged Congress party into their conspiracy to replace Chief Minister N Biren.
Speaking to media persons at Patsoi today regarding the political crisis which unfolded in the State during the past one week, Joykisan said that they were aware of people's comments which decried the act of engineering the political unrest.
Claiming that the Congress party has been donning the role of a constructive Opposition since the very beginning of the incumbent Government, Joykisan clarified that Congress did not hatch any hasty plan to topple the Biren-led coalition Government.
However, the four NPP MLAs who were serving as Cabinet Ministers in the coalition Government and some BJP MLAs repeatedly urged Congress party that the coalition Government must be toppled.
Compelled by the situation, Congress party put forward the idea of forming a new Government as it feared the possible eruption of a Constitutional crisis in the State, Joykisan said.
Briefing media persons about the recent political turmoil, Joykisan said that the conflict between NPP and BJP intensified after the last State Assembly session.
Thinking that it was an internal matter of the BJP-led coalition, Congress remained silent.
In the meantime, the four NPP MLAs came to Congress party and declared that they would no longer support the BJP-led coalition Government in any case.
They even proposed formation of a new coalition Government led by Congress, Joykisan continued.
"The proposal was discussed among the four NPP MLAs, the CLP leader and some Congress MLAs including myself", he said.
The NPP MLAs reportedly said that their political career would be finished and they would not be able to get elected in the 2022 Assembly election if they continue their alliance with BJP.
On being enquired about what position they would take if they come under immense pressure from NPP leader Conrad Sangma and BJP leaders Amit Shah and JP Nadda, the four NPP MLAs told Congress party that Conrad Sangma's relationship with BJP was not cordial any more and added that they were approaching Congress party with the knowledge of Conrad Sangma.
On the other hand, five BJP MLAs, while admitting that their plan to replace Chief Minister N Biren had ended in failure, repeatedly urged Congress party to topple the BJP-led Government.
"Out of the five BJP MLAs, two came to the houses of some Congress MLAs including mine", Joykisan said.
Later, three BJP MLAs resigned from the membership of both Manipur Legislative Assembly and BJP, he recounted.
What is bewildering is the overnight decision of NPP MLAs to re-join the coalition led by BJP after lambasting Chief Minister N Biren to their hearts' content, particularly L Jayantakumar, Joykisan remarked.
People would be knowing better what of kind people's representatives the NPP legislators are who have no integrity at all and could not stand by their own decision even for one week, he asserted.
Saying that the NPP MLAs duped not only Congress party but also forced some MLAs to resign, Joykisan appealed them not to deceive the people in such manner ever gain.
If they ever commit such treachery and betrayal against the masses, their political careers are as good as dead, Joykisan warned.
