Imphal, June 26 2020:
All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has yet again asked the State Government to implement 7th UGC pay scale for college teachers in line with 7th revised pay implemented for employees of other departments.
AMCTA in a statement mentioned that the college teachers are contributing a lot in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
The college teachers are showing restraint on account of the ongoing lockdown, however, the differential treatment meted out to them despite repeated assurances to address their demand is unacceptable, it said.
The association has sent representations to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and Chief Secretary on numerous occasions but there is no development so far, it said.
AMCTA had met CM on February 6 when the association held a mass rally and called for "cease work" from February 12 if their demands are not met.
The CM had assured to consider the teachers' grievances on the occasion.
The CM had also expressed that the State Cabinet had approved to implement their demand with effect from April during a press conference held on February 11 after a State Cabinet meeting was convened, it said.
The proposed cease work was called off subsequently, however, it was found that the State Cabinet had approved the demands of the teacher only in principle, the statement continued while adding that a similar decision was also taken on November 29, 2019.Such an act is highly condemnable and a clear disrespect to the college teachers, it said.
The college teachers will not launch any agitation as of now but the State Government should consider their demand to implement the pay scale as done for other Government employees at the earliest, the statement said.
