Imphal, August 18 2016:
The JAC
constituted against the
declaration of former JCILPS
convenor Khomdram Ratan as
a wanted man has called a 48
hour general strike all over
Manipur with effect from this
midnight in denunciation of the
arrest of Ratan last night.
Speaking to media per-
sons at Singjamei
Thongkhong today, JAC
convenor Ksh Thoiba said
that 12 persons sustained in-
juries as students and Meira
Paibis tried to prevent police
arresting Ratan at Keishampat
Leimajam Leikai at around 11
pm yesterday.
Out of the 12 injured, one
student had his hand frac-
tured.
By arresting Ratan who
was taking part in the peace-
ful relay hunger strike, the
Government has been forcing
Ratan to go underground,
Thoiba said.
He then urged the Government to release Ratan at the earliest with-
out any condition.
The State Government while committing all kinds of ex-
cesses, has been acting mute and blind to the people's
collective demands and aspirations.
The way police have been preventing the JAC from hold-
ing public meetings and press meets lacks justification.
The general strike which would remain in force till the
midnight of August 20 will not cover media, medical services,
essential services and religious functions, Thoiba added.
Meanwhile, it is reported that civil society organisations
based at Jiiribam have pledged unstinted support to the 48
hours bandh called by the JAC.
