Tourism Dept planning to grandly observe World Tourism Day

The State Tourism Department
is planning to observe the
World Tourism Day on
September 26 in a grand
manner.
The event will be held
to magnificently flaunt the
cultural extravaganza of the
State to the world populace.
Every year on September
26, Manipur Tourism Depart-
ment has been organising
World Tourism Day with an
aim to strive for common
good through sustainable
tourism.
World Tourism Day 2015
was organised at Santhei
Natural Park, Andro where a
two-day cultural extravaganza
was held successfully.
The
Department is planning to
organise the event at the same
venue this year as well.
With the objective to
showcase the rich tourism
potential of the North East
region in domestic and inter-
national markets, Imphal has
been chosen by the Ministry
of Tourism, Government of
India as the venue for the 5th
International Tourism Mart
for the North East Region
which is to be held from
November 23 to November
25, 2016.
Official delegates, cultural
troupes, tour operators and
entrepreneurs from all the
North East States will be par-
ticipating in the Mart.
It has
also been decided to invite 3
delegates from 35 countries.
The Tourism Department
has also taken up important
activities during the last one
year like production of three
pocket guide books, Lonely
Planet, Coffee Table Book
with Indian Express Group of
Publication, Four Episodes
with NDTV Good Times,
Five Episodes with Travel
XP, a sand art animation
movie by Sudarshan Patnaik
and Farthest Field-An Indian
Story of Second World War
by Raghu Karnad.
The Department has also
been participating in various
National and international fes-
tivals and events like
International Travel Bourse
(ITB) Berlin 2016,
Soorajkund Craft Mela 2016,
Jaipur Literature Festival
2016, International Tourism
Mart, Tawang, Shillong,
Sikkim, Pacific Asia Travel
Mart (PATA), Bengaluru
2015, Global Exhibition on
Services at New Delhi and
Noida, South Asia Travel and
Tourism Exchange (SATTE)
and Travel and Tourism Fair
(TTF).
The Department has been
invited by Haryana Tourism
to be a Theme State in
Soorajkund Craft Mela 2017.
The Department is planning
to collaborate with
Uttarakhand Tourism during
the International Yoga festi-
val organised annually in
March at Rishikesh.
The Department has intro-
duced many new items during
the Sangai Festival like the
Heritage Park consisting of
15 traditional exhibition huts,
daytime cultural perform-
ances, display of indigenous
sports, Clean Manipur-Green
Manipur, musical perform-
ances by Shillong Chamber
Choir and Tetseo Sisters,
Asian Theatre Festival,
Myanmar-Manipur Confer-
ence on conservation of
cultural heritage, Shumaang
Leela, Film Festival, Cleanest
Festival area and toilets,
Tourism Corporation of
Manipur Private Limited
(TCML) which was incorpo-
rated under the Companies
Act, 2013 to enable an overall
development of tourism sec-
tor in the State.
The Department extends
financial assistance to various
festivals like Mera
Houchongba, Kut Festival,
Orange Festival, Lui-Ngai-Ni,
Gaan Ngai, Pineapple Festi-
val, cultural heritage of
various communities.
Recognizing the activities,
the Department was conferred
Today Traveller's Award
2015 for Best State for pre-
serving tribal culture, Most
Promising New Destination
Award at Travel and Tourist
Fair (TTF) Ahmedabad, To-
day's Traveller's Award 2016
for Best State for promoting
Niche Tourism -Polo Tour-
ism and National Tourism
Award for the Best Innova-
tive Tour Operator (KB
Enterprises) .
