Imphal, August 18 2016:
JAC on
R&R of Chadong village which
was constituted to fight for the
rights of the villagers today
urged the authorities concerned
to redress Chadong villagers.
W Kasar, convenor, JAC
on R&R of Chadong village
said that implementation of
R&R by the State Govern-
ment was disheartening as all
the affected villagers are yet
to be compensated as per
various MoUs and agree-
ments signed between the
villagers and State Govern-
ment.
Chadong village has
been completely inundated by
the flood water but the plight
of the villagers are left unat-
tended till date.
"We have sacrificed our
land and livelihood in the
larger interest of the State.
However, what have we got
from it was misery," the con-
venor said.
The announcement to com-
mission the dam in September
even before the completion of
the resettlement program has
deeply hurt the villagers.
With sincere efforts of the
State Government, Chadong
can be rebuilt into a smart
model village.
It can be one
of the famous tourist destina-
tions of the State and can be
a model centre for many alter-
native livelihood projects
such fishery, organic farm-
ing, dairy, horticulture etc.
The JAC further said the
mega dam project which is
supposed to be the saviour of
Manipur should serve it pur-
pose by saving Chadong
village .
