De-worming tablets land 7 in hospital

Imphal, August 18 2016:
Seven
students have been taken to
hospital after they took de-
worming tablets.
Students of Medina Uni-
versal English School, Lilong
Bazar were given de-worm-
ing tablets at around 10.30 am
yesterday.
After a gap of just around
30 minutes, nine students
complained of health prob-
lems and they were taken to
Lilong Primary Health Cen-
tre.
As condition of six stu-
dents improved after
medication, they were dis-
charged from the PHC.
However, the remaining three
were taken to RIMS.
The three students cur-
rently undergoing treatment
have been identified as Khutheibam Usmani (15) d/o Md Abdul
Khalique of Kyamgei, Sonia (15) s/o Md Firoz Khan of Lilong
Bazar and Fakina Banu (15) d/o late Burhanuddin of Lilong.
All of
them are reading in Class X.
One of them said that she felt unwell soon after taking the
de-worming tablet.
Notably, de-worming tablet of the brand
name Albendazole (400 mg) is manufactured by Bangalore
based Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Health Director O Ibomcha maintained that the same brand
of tablets were distributed too in February and there was no
problem.
He added that the three students presently undergo-
ing treatment at RIMS are out of danger and they would be
discharged soon.
