Imphal, March 18 2016 :
Following the death of Laishram (O) Romita (40) w/o Senapati of Khurai Angaom Leikai who succumbed to her bullet injuries on March 16 at RIMS hospital, protesters stormed Raj Medicity today demanding befitting punishment for negligence on the part of doctors and management of the private hospital where she was earlier treated after the fateful incident of Feb 19 .
Romita was hospitalised after she was shot at by unidentified gunmen, inside a restaurant owned by her husband at Laiching Chingkhong last month.
She was initially admitted to Raj Medicity and was discharged later.
The woman was later admitted to RIMS following complications and succumbed to her injuries on March 16 .
Recollecting the incident, a protester alleged negligence on the part of doctors and management of the private hospital, Raj Medicity, where she was treated.
Romita was admitted to Raj Medicity around 12.30 noon on the day she was shot at by unidentified gunmen.
Doctors took longer time than expected in conducting investigation.

After analyzing the damage incurred, as per the advice of the doctors, a keyhole surgery was performed on her on Feb 19 at around 4.30 pm.
She received bullet injury on her abdomen.
However, due to a complication an open surgery was performed again on Feb 20 at around 10 am, she added.
The wound was re-stitched after three days due to negligence of the doctors attending on her, the protester alleged.
She was discharged on March 9 with an advice to come back for check up after ten days, she said.
The protesters demanded that stringent action be taken against the doctors who treated Romita and managing staff of Raj Medicity for their negligence.
On the other hand Asst General Manager of Raj Medicity Dinesh Kshetrimayum clarified that the allegation made by protesters that after conducting a laparoscopic surgery or keyhole surgery the patient was again operated is wrong.
He said that the keyhole surgery was conducted by a surgeon to drain out excess blood which was embedded in the chest after the bullet injury.
The second operation in the abdomen was conducted by a general surgeon and she showed signs of recovery.
On March 9, due to financial constraints of the family, she was discharged despite the hospital authority not willing to discharge Romita, he added.
As she suffered three different injuries in the intestines strict instructions were given to regularly visit the hospital after every alternate day for check-ups but they did not co-operate, he alleged.
Six days later after being admitted to RIMS, unfortunately she succumbed to the injuries.
It is not the responsibility of Raj Medicity as no mistakes were made by the doctors and surgeons in the proceedings, he said.
After repeated instructions were given to visit the hospital, they failed to turn up, he added.
Mention may be made that two others; a school van driver and a girl, were also injured when the gunmen opened gun fire inside the restaurant on Feb 19 .
