Imphal, March 06 2013: Taken into captivity for over three months, Nitin Masih, a native of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, who was abducted by unidentified armed miscreants from Kakching Lamkhai on November 24 last year, has been released unharmed today.

Nitin Masih (38) is married to Naorem Amilia of Kakching Wairi Pung Pareng.

He came to the State on November 7 for Ningol Chakkouba celebration.

He disappeared on November 24 from Kakching Lamkhai.

On his release today, Nitin Masih told family members that he was abducted by the armed men due to mistaken identity.

Addressing media persons today at the official quarters of Kakching MLA Y Surchandra at Babupara, Nitin Masih said he was abducted from Kakching Lamkhai on November 24 last year while returning home after seeing the harvesting at his in-laws' paddy field on the day.

He said that three armed men had abducted him using small weapons and motorcycles.

After injecting a drug on his body at a small village, he was later boarded in a Van.

When he regained consciousness, he found himself among unknown armed miscreants with his limbs tied at an isolated place.

The captors asked various details of Nitin Masih in their custody.

Later, it was known from the abductors that he was not the one they were looking for.

However, as the abductors could not immediately communicate with their bosses he was forced to stay among them thus far, Nitin Masih said.

On being asked who the abductors were, Nitin said that his captors refused to divulge their identity.

He said Hindi was used as the medium of communication during the days of his captivity.

He also said that no physical torture and harassment were meted out to him during his captivity.

Besides he was fed with regular meals all throughout the days though he was restricted to cross the area where he was put up.

He also said that no monetary demand was made to him.

He was boarded in a Van from the place till they reached a National Highway early this morning.

From the highway, he was transported to Imphal in a Tata Truck, he said.

He recalled the word 'Kangpokpi' inscribed on signboards as the first place of human settlement he reached during his sojourn in the truck.

On reaching Khuman Lampak, Nitin first contacted his wife through a PCO and went to JNIMS for medical check-up.

Speaking at the press meet, MLA Y Surchandra expressed gratitude for the safe release of Nitin Masih.

It may be mentioned that various civil society organisations, under the aegis of a JAC formed in connection with the disappearance of Nitin Masih, had resorted to various types of agitation besides appealing the abductors for the safe release of Nitin Masih.
