State Cabinet okays NH-53 takeover, land acquisition

With the border Roads Organisation (BRO) authorities reportedly showing signs of reluctance to shoulder responsibility for the development/maintenance of Imphal-Barak section of National Highway-53, an SPF Cabinet meeting held today has consequently endorsed handing over the task to the State Public Works Department.
According to senior Cabinet Minister L Jayantakumar, the meeting presided by the Chief Minister this afternoon approved re-assignment of the task to the PWD from the BRO.
In other developments, the Cabinet decided to entrust road development work from Tengnoupal to new Molcham, previously assigned to the PWD, to the BRO while similar work on the Jessami route would be the responsibility of the State PWD, said the Minister.
For expansion of road from Khoyathong to Fishery Office junction, Lamphelpat via Thangmeiband Watham Leirak, Khoyathong-Lilashing Khongnangkhong section, Maharani bridge (Thangal Bazar) to Khoyathong, North AOC to Khong Ani Karak, and from North AOC to Minuthong, the Cabinet also approved relevant land acquisition process.

The land acquisition process will, however, be initiated after mutual agreement with the affected land owners on the land value, said Jayantakumar while adding that similar exercise would be undertaken for expansion of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences through acquisition of land falling under Khurai Soibam Leikai Village Number 25 .
On the otherhand, decision was taken by the Cabinet to shift Modern College, Porompat to the site earlier occupied by the SP (Imphal East) and OC (Porompat PS).
formal shifting of the College would be effected only after complete construction of the College building, the Minister informed.
The Cabinet further approved in-principle the State Government's proposal for establishing a university of Institute of Charter Financial Analyst of India in the State at an estimate cost of Rs 30 crore and the same matter referred to the Law Department for a review.
