M Okendro: Govt to hold off losing academic year by CBSE students

Education Minister M Okendro on Saturday assured that the Government was mulling formulating a one-time policy to avoid all CBSE students, who had missed out the Class X and XII board examinations 2015, from losing the academic year.
The minister was participating as chief guest in a function at SERT office complex, Lamphel here, which was organized to felicitate Audio & Video Production team of SCERT, Imphal which had bagged several awards at the All India Children Educational Audio & Visual Festival held from March 24-26 in New Delhi.
He stated that the State Government was considering a one-time policy to avoid all CBSE students, who had been barred from appearing the Class X and XII board exams this year, from losing the academic year.
Okendro informed that a Government appointed committee was investigating the case regarding denial of admit cards to a large number of CBSE students by the school authorities this year.
The investigation was supposed to complete by March 28, the minister said, but added that the committee had been asked to continue the probe till April 15."An FIR case has been registered against some individuals involved in the cheating case," he disclosed.
Referring to frequent protest by students, Okendro said he disliked instigating students by teachers to stir up at the drop of a hat.
He said, "Teachers are refusing to attend schools which are located a few kilometers away from home.
They want to be posted at educational institutions located in their courtyards." All teachers from both Government and private educational institutions require proper training, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Okendro said that barring Imphal East, all the districts have DEIT Centres and that the office building for the same centre for the district was under construction.
He said the DEIT Centre at the DM College, Imphal campus cannot be shifted like a motor vehicle.
The minister's remark came against the backdrop of a recent agitation by students of the college over the demand for moving the centre to elsewhere.
Okendro also announced that the State Government was going to set up block level institute of teachers' education centres in six districts of the State.
He put stress on the need for such centres for providing good training to all teachers.
In the meantime, the minister commended the Audio & Video production of SCERT, Imphal for winning awards at the All India Children Educational Audio & Visual Festival.
SERT, Imphal Director M Minakumari who was also present on the occasion said "Ephoot-na Torban Kaibagi Hourakphamni" and "Anouba Makok," both audio programmes produced by Manipur won several awards at the festival.
Higher & Technical Education and SERT Commissioner P Vaiphei and University & Higher Education Director C Arthur were the president and guest of honour at the function.
