A suspected UG cadre was gunned down by Imphal East commandos at a spot behind the Mahaballi Youth Club (MYL) of Mahaballi Kabui village under Porompat police station at about 6.40 pm today.
According to information received from the spot, the UG cadre was shot dead as two of them riding a Hero Honda (Passion) refused to pay heed to the call of commandos to halt.
The commandos were pursuing them from Sanjenthong side.
On being fired, the motor cycle rode by the UG cadres felled on the road side.
Hit in the firing, one of them who was thrown out for about 15 feet from the motor cycle died on the spot.
The other cadre was said to have fallen into the Imphal river with bullet injuries.
However, even as the commando personnel searched for the fallen cadre up to Thumbuthong bridge, they could not find him.
One M 20 pistol and three live rounds were recovered from the slain cadre.
The slain cadre had well built body and his ears were not pierced.
He wore a T shirt and track pants, all of blue colour.
He wore a pair of black slippers.
The Hero Honda (Passion) rode by the UG cadres bear registration number MN 06S-7910.On hearing gun shots fired by commando personnel on Mahaballi side, guards of Babupara VIP quarters also opened fire indiscriminately.
The corpse has been picked up by police and deposited at RIMS morgue.
Bomb threat : In an apparent act of intimidation, suspected KCP cadres placed a bomb near the door leading to the office chamber of the Director of Social Welfare Department at about 5 this evening.
One individual who claimed to be a KCP cadre informed the press that the bomb found near the door of Director A Nabachandra's office was placed by KCP cadres.
A team of reporters who visited the office saw a polythene package on a chair near the door leading to the Director's office.
Soon a police team arrived and pulled the package for some distance using bamboo pole.
But when explosive experts opened the package, a rocket mortar, a small piece of letter and flowers were found inside the package.
The letter addressed to the Director warned him to tender an apology to the public or face punishment within five days.
The explosive was later set off safely on the road to Langol near the garbage pit at about 7 pm.
