In honour of Khaidem Jhum Jhum s/o Khaidem Meghachandra who perished in rescuing 11 year old Irom Naoton from drowning in the recent flood, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has decided to erect a monument.
In recognition of his valour and selfless disposition, the MSF given the title of Students' Hero to late Jhum Jhum.
Khaidem Jhum Jhum of Heirangoithong Oinam Leikai was a student of Herbert Scool reading in class XI Science.
At about 8 am of October 18, he rescued one Irom Naoton from drowning in swirling flood waters.
Even as he managed to rescue the 11 year old body, he got drowned and lost his life.
Describing late Jhum Jhum as a courageous student, MSF vice-president Md Atabuddin informed that for Jhum Jhum who sacrificed his life in his effort to save a drowning boy, MSF will install a memorial statue at a suitable site with the help of people.
Construction work of the statue will begin this year, said Atabudin while speaking to reporters today.
He also sought cooperation from the public towards the proposed memorial statue.
The student body also condemned the State Government for its failure to extend any kind of help towards the bereaved family.
