Imphal, December 20:
Following the arrest of three Manipuri Muslim youths suspected to be members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) by Delhi Police from near the busy Red Fort area of the National capital yesterday, the State Police Department is all set to swing into action for a crackdown.
Though no formal intimation from the Delhi Police has been forwarded in connection with the arrest of the three Manipuri Muslim youths, namely Salman Khurshid Kori (23), Abdur Rehman (24) and Mohammad Akbar Hussain (20), the State Police Department has already done the necessary spadework for the crackdown, according to a reliable source from the Police Department.
"We haven't received any formal intimation from Delhi police about the matter but we are ready to take all action after getting the vital information," a senior police officer said.
However activities of the police have been beefed up strategically following the arrest, the police officer said, adding "It would be premature to comment on our operational activities at this point of time." When asked whether Islamic armed outfits operating in the State including Peoples' United Liberation Front (PULF), have links with the international Islamic armed organizations in the wake of the trio's arrest, the police officer declined to comment by simply maintaining "something would be definitely established after receiving information from Delhi police." To another question, the police officer said, "we are also ready to send our men to help in interrogating the arrested three as and when the Delhi police require." The three Manipur Muslim youths who were allegedly planning terror attacks in the busy markets of the National capital were arrested by personnel of special cell sleuths of Delhi Police at around 7.30 am yesterday as soon as they alighted from a bus coming from Jammu.
Delhi Police also claimed to have seized two kilograms of RDX, two detonators and a hand grenade from their possession.
Mention may be made that BJP's Northeast in charge V Satish during a recent press conference at Imphal had disclosed that the North East region is facing threat from Jehadis aided by ISI and international Islamic forces from its reported base in Bangladesh.
He had also charged the Congress-led UPA Govt at the Centre with remaining silent over this matter.
