A call for 66 hour statewide general strike has been given as a mark of protest against the extension of the ongoing ceasefire between the Government of India (GoI) and the Naga militants in Manipur.
The decision to observe the bandh was taken in a joint meeting of leaders of apex organizations of different communities which was held at the office of AMUCO at 2 pm today.
The general strike will come into force from midnight tonight (June 15) and will continue till 6 pm of June 18.The meeting presided by AMUCO chief advisor Th Iboyaima condemned the decision and declared GoI as �anti-people/national�.
The public leaders� meeting also resolved to organize mass sit-in-protest and mass court arrest.
Students will also participate in the mass movement.
Flaying the decision of the BJP led Government at the Centre the meeting resolved that all the MLAs and MPs from Manipur should resign to protest against the decision.
It was also decided that a mass rally will be organized in the first week of July, if the Government of India refuses to withdraw the decision to extend the ceasefire to Manipur.
The meeting appealed to the national media to report information and documentation related to Manipur in time.
The meeting strongly condemned the imposition of prohibitory order under section 144 CrPC saying that it is a dive and rule policy to whip up tension between the communities.
The chairman of the meeting termed the development as a �challenge� to the people of Manipur.
