Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today voiced strong protest against bringing Manipur under the jurisdiction of the ceasefire between the GoI and NSCN (IM).
The legislators cutting across party line attended the meeting which was held at the Library hall of the Assembly at 3 pm today.
The meeting was convened by the Speaker Dr S Dhananjoy Singh.
Earlier today the Speaker met the Governor Ved Marwah at the Imphal Raj Bhavan to express his opposition to the development.
MLAs are planning to submit a memorandum to the Governor against the extension of the ceasefire to Manipur at 10 am tomorrow.
The Speaker appealed to all MLAs, who had failed to turn up in today�s meeting to join a protest march from the Assembly to the Raj Bhavan.
Altogether 29 MLAs took part in today�s meeting.
MLAs of Samata Party, MPP, Congress, MSCP (N) and Independent were among those who were conspicuous by their absence.
BJP Meinam Bhorot was present during the meeting.
The members unanimously resolved to strongly oppose the decision of the GoI to extend the ceasefire to Manipur.
They urged the Centre to review its decision.
While resolving to launch a movement the meeting appealed to the people to show restraint and remain calm.
The decisions taken by the meeting will be sent to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and Central leaders.
The MLAs also urged the Centre to declare ceasefire with all the underground organizations in Manipur for holding talks.
Opening the meeting the Speaker reminded the decisions taken by the House against any move to break up Manipur.
