Cabinet gives nod to recruit 341 MOs

The State Cabinet which met this evening with the Chief Minister in the chair has decided to directly recruit 341 Medical Officers in the State Health Department to make up for the shortage of doctors in the State.
This decision follows the stand of the Government to lift the ban on recruitment in some Govt Depts.
Earlier only a few, most prominently the Home Department, were exempted from the ban on fresh recruitment.
Speaking to newsmen, Government spokesperson, M Okendro said that taking cognizance of the shortage of doctors in the State, the Cabinet decided to recruit 341 Medical Officers directly.
Open advertisement for the recruitment would be held and the recruitment task will be handed over to the Manipur Public Service Commission, said the spokesperson.
The present sanctioned post of MOs is 966 but presently there are only 625 MOs.
Out of the 625 MOs, 122 are pursuing their PG courses, he said and added that it is to make up for the shortfall that the Cabinet has decided to recruit 341 MOs through direct recruitment by lifting the ban on fresh recruitment.
Okendro further said that with the creation of 12 new Sub-Division, the Cabinet has also agreed to freshly create posts of 12 SDOs.
The Cabinet also discussed the norms of usage of beacon lights and flag posts but did not take a final decision, opting to study the models followed in other States.
