Ravi's death : MSAC urges for calm

Imphal, August 30, 2012: Even as the Manipuri Students' Association, Chandigarh has appealed to the people not to panic but to remain calm in the aftermath of a student from Manipur found dead there yesterday, Home Minister Gaikhangam today informed the media that State DGP Y Joykumar has been keeping in touch with DIG of Chandigarh, Alok Kumar over the issue.

DIG Alok Kumar had assured the DGP of taking necessary measures in conducting the autopsy of Pangambam Ravi, the student who was found dead in Chandigarh yesterday.

At the same time the father of Pangambam Ravi has also left Imphal for Chandigarh today.

DGP Y Joykumar said the post mortem report of Ravi is expected to arrive soon.

P Ravi, a B Sc II year student of Government College for Men, Chandigarh was found dead in a thick undergrowth yesterday.

P Ravi s/o P Sanggai hailed from Khurai Kongpal Ningthoubung Leikai.

In a statement issued to the press, president of Manipuri Students' Association, Chandigarh, RK Meiraba said that the case has apparently nothing to do with communal intents, as Chandigarh has been comparatively peaceful, unlike other cities which were affected by hate mails and resulted in the mass exodus of North East people.

Giving some details, the student body said that the late P Ravi was missing since August 25 and accordingly his elder brother filed a report with the police on August 29. Stating that there were no external injury marks on the body, the statement said that there are no evidences to suspect it a murder.

However the Chandigarh police is yet to confirm the cause of death, pending the post mortem report, which is expected tomorrow.

Urging all not to be misled by rumours, the student body said that no one has left Chandigarh city and added that all people from the North East there are quite safe and secure.

Normal professional and educational activities go on undisturbed, it added.

Expressing concern over some misleading reports, the Meiraba appealed to all not to panic and resort to irrational course of action due to any misleading information.

The student body also urged all to confirm with it (Manipuri Students' Association, Chandigarh) and the North East Forum, Chandigarh any news, before going public.
