Imphal, July 30 2011:
Pointing out flaws in the proposed Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) which is to be conducted by BSEM, the DESAM demanded today to defer the test until the flaws have been mended.
Secretary General, DESAM, M Angamba today said that there are many difference between the guidelines of the BSEM's Teachers Eligibility Test and the Central Eligibility Test.
According to guidelines of National Council For Teacher Education (NCTE), the minimum qualification for Primary teachers is 45 % in aggregate mark in 10+2 standard.
There are eight DITE centres in the state under the DM College of Teachers Education and SCERT and the centres are also allowing candidates with 45 % in aggregate in 12th standard.
However, BSEM has set the cut off mark at 50 % in aggregate which is much higher than the national criteria.
The decision of BSEM will exclude aspirants who could not secure 50 % in 12th standard but have a diploma /degree in teacher education.
The state government should make a clear stand on the fate of students who have got a diploma/degree but could not score 50 % in 12th standard, he said.
The questions also arise for graduate candidates who could not score 50 % in the 12th standard but scored more than 50 % in BA.
Moreover there are many flaws in the TET paper 2 eligibility criteria.
The criteria does not properly mention about the subjects for graduate candidates which might arise problems if candidates with graduation in Agriculture, Forestry or Engineering apply for the posts.
He questioned the reason behind the difference between the qualifying exam marks for General, OBC, SC and ST candidates.
The government should form a selection board from next year onward, he added.
