Imphal, July 30 2011:
The allegation of MLA K Raina that development works taken up along Imphal-Dimapur Road like is an advertisement is an attempt to malign image of the Department and its workers, who have been performing their duties despite pressures from various quarters, Executive Engineer, Div-I, National Highway-39 Konsam Premkumar has contended.
Talking to newspersons in his office chamber this afternoon, the EE reacting to allegation by the MLA and pointed out that development work along the National Highway 39 stretch from Koirengei to Mao, which is a distance of 106 km started in early part of 2010 with an amount of Rs 4.78 crores sanctioned by the State Government.
However, recurrence of landslides and land depression along most part of the road stretch negated efforts of the developmental work.
Inspite of that under the strict instruction of Works Minister K Ranjit, the Department has been continuing with its effort to ensure development of the road stretch, the EE asserted.
The officer further pointed out that during the last fiscal year, 2010-2011, the Centre had been approached for providing Rs 12.2 crores in connection with development of the said road stretch.
Out of this, Rs 1.6 crores has been sanctioned.
Moreover, an official team from the Central Ministry, who had come for inspection of the National Highway stretch had noted that development of the road stretch in question would not be an easy task.
So, a survey has been conducted for realignment of the road under Phase-A of the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme and sanctioning of Rs 100 crores for the purpose is awaited.
So, the attempt to malign the Department which has been trying its level best is very unfortunate, the EE observed.
