Imphal, July 30 2011:
Sadar Hills DRDA Chairman Sh Seipu has rejected all allegations of misusing or swindling any MGNREGS fund.
Seipu who is also Sadar Hills ADC Chairman flatly rejected KRA's allegation that he misappropriated Rs 30 lakhs of MGNREGS fund meant for payment of wages to job-card holders.
Generally, MGNREGS funds are released to BDOs through DRDAs and are deposited in the accounts of village chairmen and secretaries for further deposition in the accounts of job-card holders.
No DRDA Chairman has the authority to interfere in allocation or release of MGNREGS funds, Seipu asserted.
"The allegation of drawing Rs 30 lakhs of MGNREGS fund and swindling them for my personal benefit is baseless and it has an ulterior motive to ruin my political career", he said.
After the expiry of tenure of Kangpokpi Town Committee, an interim body was formed.
It was this interim body which withdrew Rs 30 lakhs meant for payment of wages to job-card holders of 15 Wards of Kangpokpi Town, Seipu said.
The amount was deposited in the joint account of MDC Nehkholam Chongloi, also chairman of the interim body and executive officer Paominthang Doungel by BDO Kangpokpi.
Then the amount was drawn for distribution to job card holders, Seipu added.
