Imphal, March 16 2012:
A meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) for choosing the right candidate for the post of Assembly Speaker has been convened tomorrow at 10:30 am at the cabinet hall of the Chief Ministers Secretariat.
The meeting would be chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
According to a reliable source, although none of the Congress MLAs have shown interest to the post of the Speaker as they are aspiring for Ministerial berths, filing up of the obligatory post of the Constitution would be decided in the meeting tomorrow and the Chief Minister would forward the names of the candidate for the post of Speaker to the Assembly Secretariat.
Among the likely candidates to be nominated for the post of Speaker, the names of former Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshwar, Pro Tem Speaker L Nandakumar, Dr Th Ratankumar and Ak Meerabai are high on the list, the source disclosed, adding that the Opposition is also in no mood of bringing out a suitable candidate from their side for the post of Speaker because of the fact that they may lose to the mighty Congress in case of voting for the Speaker's post.
