Workshop on forest begins

A two day state level inter-departmental workshop on 'Convergence of NAP and other Schemes for the JFMC and Field Level Staff in the State of Manipur' has commenced from today at the conference hall of Forest Head Office, Sanjenthong.
The inauguration of the workshop, organised by State Forest Development Agency under the sponsorship of RCNAEB, MOEF, NEHU, Shillong was held with Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) AK Rana (IFS) and Addl PCF (Cons & FDA) DC Karnatak (IFS) as the chief guest and president respectively while the event sponsors' Core Group Member Dr SK Jha graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
A CD entitled 'Save forests' was also released by the chief guest AK Rana also pointed out that Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) was constituted in 1990 to look into issues concerning development activities creating environmental problems.
Informing that since setting of JFMC trees had been planted to replenish the forest cover in the State, he exhorted all concerned that time has come for maintenance of the trees.
Rana also mentioned that prevailing situation entails minute assessment of success about various joint ventures between the Forest Department and village level activists compared to the fund provided to such a campaign.
The PCCF also reminded on the need for sustaining the cooperation between the Horticulture department, Agriculture department, Sericulture and Forest departments to ensure the success of various schemes.
