International AIDS Candle Light Memorial to be observed

The International AIDS Candle Light Memorial, one of the world's largest and oldest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV and AIDS awareness in the world, will be observed jointly by different CSOs, Human Rights groups, lawyer's networks and NGOs in Manipur on May 20 .
The theme of the International AIDS Candle Light Memorial, which falls on May 20, will be "Promoting Health and Dignity Together" .
Addressing media persons at the office of All Manipur Bar Association located within Cheirap Court complex, RK Kanta, convener, Organising Committee on Observation of International AIDS Candle Light Memorial, said that for the first time in Manipur, CSOs, Human Rights groups, Lawyer's Networks and NGOs are coming together to observe the day and it would continue as a year-long state-level campaign for solidarity in fighting the epidemic.
He further informed that the observation will begin with a painting event for children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS on May 18.Candles will be lit in 14 market places in Imphal, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
In coordination with AMCO candle light prayers will also be held in a number of churches.
Towards promoting health and dignity, particularly for people living with HIV and AIDS and other communities, volunteers will campaign for improving service access, prevent rights violation and reducing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS, people who inject drugs, sex workers, MSMs and other vulnerable communities, he added.
