Senapati, June 29 2020:
In another flash flood natural disaster, many paddy fields at Radat were totally submerged under mud and stones while some fields were swept away by Spouba stream at Rajaimei village under Willong sub-division.
All the fields were recently transplanted by the victimized farmers.
One of the aggrieved farmer T Ramba informed that those paddy fields belonged to more than 10 families.
The incident happened around 7:30pm yesterday when the present monsoon heavy downpour triggered an over flowing of a stream which swept over the paddy fields leaving no means to cultivate them.
The said Spouba stream is one of the tributaries of the State's biggest Barak River.
Another farmer stated that the disaster is a big setback to the families as they are solely dependent on paddy cultivation.
With COVID-19 pandemic, the villagers are apprehensive of food shortage in the coming year as almost all households of Rajaimei village involved themselves with cultivation.
However, such unfortunate event has only worsened their worries as all the said farmers are unemployed with large family members.
Barnabas who is among the oldest farmer in the village informed that his paddy fields were also totally damaged in the incident.
He has appealed to the District Administration and State Government to hear their cry and avail relief to the victims for survival.
