Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded a 24-year-old man to judicial custody on charges of theft and vandalizing a Government quarter.
The accused has been identified as Thanga Haokip (24) of Langol Housing Complex Type III.
He was arrested today morning by the police from his residence.
According to the Investigating Officer of the case, on April 8 morning, a complaint was lodged at Lamphel Police State about a theft and vandalism at a residential Government quarter allotted to Ngatuba Timothy of SIRD (RD&PR) at Langol Housing Complex when the family was out at Senapati.
The family members reported Rs 50 thousand in cash kept inside a wooden almirah along with some official documents, one laptop and four gas cylinders missing.
Thanga Haokip was arrested on suspicion and during interrogation, he admitted to have committed the crime.
He revealed that on April 8 at around 2 am under the influence of 'heroin' (Number 4) he committed the offence by breaking into the house of his neighbour.
Thanga Haokip said he used one iron rod to break into the house.
He admitted that he had stolen one laptop, one gas cylinder and some cash which he hid in an abandoned room in the backyard of his house.
Police have recovered the said items following his revelation.
He also revealed that he had been remanded to judicial custody before in two other separate cases.
Finding the submission by the police satisfactory, the Court remanded him to judicial custody till July 13 .
