Imphal, June 29 2020:
BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Jotin Waikhom has claimed that BJP works with greater principle as compared to other political parties of the State and the country, and it is based on the concept of coalition.
Speaking to media persons at his Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai residence today, Jotin Waikhom dismissed the clarification of Congress MLA Kh Joykisan that Congress party did not initiate any plan to topple the BJP-led coalition Government but it was dragged into the political game by other parties.
It is a common knowledge that Congress opened a camp specifically to topple the BJP-led coalition Government at the residence of a man who wishes to contest State Assembly election in Yaiskul AC located at Patsoi.
Thinking that they have got an opportunity to form Government, Congress party opened the camp and conspired to topple the Government, forgetting about the COVID-19 pandemic, Jotin said.
Joykisan's clarification that Congress as an Opposition party staked claim to form the Government but it was not a part of the conspiracy to topple the incumbent Government is rather confusing, he remarked.
BJP has full faith in the concept of coalition Government.
Perhaps it was the highly principled approach of BJP that brought back the four MLAs to the coalition, Jotin said without naming NPP.
But it would not be right to give any comment on the return of the four MLAs, he chipped in.
Although the coalition Government is over three years old, BJP never tried to gobble up or merge the smaller coalition partners into it, said the BJP State unit vice-president.
When there was SPF Government in the State led by Congress, several smaller local parties which were partners of the coalition were forced to merge with Congress and thus they (Congress) achieved majority, Jotin pointed out.
Driven by certain grievances, three BJP MLAs went out of the Government briefly but they were incited by Congress to resign from BJP.
The resignation letters of the three BJP MLAs came from the Congress camp, Jotin asserted and added that BJP never asked the Congress MLAs who have been supporting Congress to resign from their party.
MLA Joykisan's claim that Congress party was dragged into the battle for toppling the BJP-led Government at the insistence of other parties reeks of sheer irresponsibility, Jotin remarked.
The political crisis could have been averted had Congress party told the other parties which knocked its door with a call to topple the Government that it was not the right time for any such political manoeuvre in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some Congress MLAs indulged in cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha election and it testified that there is no unity within Congress, Jotin added.
