The day in 1947 on which the British flag "Union Jack" flying at Kangla forth replaced by the flag of Manipur with Iputhou Pakhangba was remembered today with a function with titular king graced as chief guest today 29th day of Thawan in Meetei Lunar Calendar.
The function organized jointly by the All India Kangla Pakhangba Temple Development Society, Kangla Kangla Inat Phambei, Khunshem Leishem Milup Khut Kangla, Universal Mother Organisation, Kabui Mother Association, Malem Leishemlonl for Yek Salai Kangla, People Welfare Forum, Thoubal, Ipun Imphal and Kha Nongchup Apunba Meira Paibi Lup was also attended by officials of the Sana Konung and other leaders.
The flag of Pakhangba was unfurled by the titular king Sanajaoba at the Kangla temple.
Later speaking in the function stressed the need of performing the function with mass participation so that people of the state aware of the day on which Manipur got independence.
It was on this day on 1947, the state was declared free from British rule and King Budhachanda lifted the untouchable that kept between the hills and valley people, allowing people to enjoy their way of worship etc., he said.
He also demanded that government should recognized the day and observed as state function expressing disappointment on not taking up any work to recognized the day by the government.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Kabui Mother Association, Kakumlu Kamei said, to performed such a function related with independence of the state in such crucial juncture is a matter of proud of the people of the state.
She also appealed not to try to abolish the culture and tradition of the people of the state by any one.
