New political party launched

A new regional political party under the name of Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF) has been launched with the stated objective of building up a free and developed society.
Announcing this during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, president of MDPF Dr G Tonsana Sharma informed that MDPF was established on May 11, 2011 and the Election Commission of India granted registration as a political party under Section 29 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 with effect from April 25, 2011 .
He explained that the main objective of the party is to build up a free and democratic society for overall development in the political, social, economic and cultural life of the people in Manipur and to create a political and administrative structure so as to facilitate participation of all social and ethnic groups in the democratic process and Nation building task in the State.
MDPF would also strive for promotion of economic development through planning, to free from exploitation, social control over the natural resources, encourage private enterprises and involvement of foreign capital, Dr Tonsana said, adding that MDPF is for the welfare of the society and it would work for the welfare of minorities, including tribals and other weaker sections of the society, particularly, women and physically challenged people.
Dr Tonsana assured that his party would ensure fulfilment of its objective through democratic, Constitutional and peaceful manner.
He further informed that MDPF would contest in the election to bring about changes in the present system and steer the course of the society to the right direction.
In the coming Assembly election, MPDF would field at least 30 candidates from 30 different Assembly Constituencies.
So far, district unit of the party has been opened for Imphal East and the units for other districts would also be opened very soon, Dr Tonsana said, and added people from both the hills and the valley areas who would like to do something for the society are welcome to join the party.
It is said that the headoffice of MDPF is located at Lairikyengbam Leikai.
Other functionaries of the party are T Brajamani (vice president), W Chaoba (secretary), NK Roy (treasurer), G Sharma (joint secretary) and Roshan, Sanjoy and Hemio (executive members).
