Imphal, June 17 2011:
NCP Manipur unit president, Radhabinod Koijam today expressed confidence that an alternative government will come in the state after the 2012 general election to the state Assembly.
Speaking at the concluding function of the weeklong celebration function of the 13th foundation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) held today at Khungthokhanbi ground, the former Chief Minister asserted that there is internal disagreement within the ruling Congress.
The weakening of the ruling party owing to internal disagreement coupled with the poor performance of the present SPF government, he said, will lead to an alternative government to be formed in the state after the next Assembly election.
NCP will take a major role in the formation of the alternative government, he added.
The first step which would be taken up by his party is to ease the existing communal tension in the state for return of peace in the region, he said.
He recalled that during his tenure as Chief Minister of the state for four months, he had declared unilateral ceasefire and allowed UG activists to meet their families.
In his maiden visit, Prime Minister, Dr Manmohon Singh had assured that he would look in the matter of repeal of AFSPA as per recommendation of the Justice Jeevan Reddy committee.
But he has failed to translate the recommendation of the committee into work stating the Army was against the repeal of the Act.
On the other hand, Irom Sharmila is on a fast demanding repeal of the Act.
The question arises whether the country is ruled by the Army or the democratically elected people's representatives, he asserted.
Peace is the essence of human civilization and there should be peace, he said reiterating the NCP will always work to find a way to bring peace in the region.
Sixty-five years have passed since India got its independence, yet NH 53 is still in a deplorable condition, he pointed out.
Today the Congress has become dangerous and unpredictable as its leaders have turned out to be the most corrupt leaders, the NCP state president said.
In the state too many charges of corruption have come up, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Salam Joy compared the state to a vehicle moving backward and said that there is a great role to be taken by the people in installing a good government.
There is the need of people's unity to thwart persons who think of winning elections by muscle and money powers.
For the NCP, it is committed to prevent electing persons through unfair means, he added.
MLA Doukhongmang Khongsai, who also expressed confidence of installation of an alternative government after the 2012 election criticised the SPF government.
He said the present government in the state is similar
to 'President Rule' .
Many other leaders of the party including former MLA Ibomcha also spoke on the occasion.
He felt that the Congress which is the oldest party in the country, has now become beset with a downfall in the morals of the party leaders.
They have become corrupted.
