Seized food items, tobacco worth Rs 27,000 disposed

Kangpokpi, June 16 2017:
Food Safety Department, Kangpokpi district conducted a special food drive in and around Kangpokpi DHQs today.
The special drive was conducted by a team of Food Safety officials led by Food Safety Officer, Kangpokpi L Saratchandra and accompanied by officer in-charge, Kangpokpi police station Inspector N Thangjamuan and his team.
A large quantity of expired food items including cold/soft drinks, biscuits, sweets, pickles, tobacco and its items and banned Myanmar food items were detected and confiscated during the drive.
Later, the seized items worth approximately Rs 27, 000 were disposed at DC complex, Kangpokpi in the presence of Kangpokpi cops and local leaders.
Speaking to media persons, L Saratchandra said that such drives will be conducted regularly and severe actions will be taken up against those who sell expired food items.
He further stated that the shop owners were let go with a stem warning.
The Food Safety Officer appealed the people of Kangpokpi to be careful in buying packaged items.
