Imphal, June 16 2017:
Food and Mouth Disease (FMD) epidemic has killed more than 20 animals in Twilang areas under Kangpokpi district.
Food and Mouth Disease, which is one of the most serious epidemics has affected clo-ven-hoof animals especially buffalo and cow in the areas, reports our correspondent.
The outbreak of such epidemic at a juncture when paddy cultivation season is in full swing has made the farmers panicky.
ADC Sadar Hills Executive Member (Vety), BP Vikas Basnet said, "ADC Sadar Hills has directed the Veterinary Department to conduct spot inquiry and to take up possible measures to control FMD in the area" .
Due to shortage of sufficient funds, the Veterinary Department led by its officer, Dr John Meigai, ADC Sadar Hills was not able to cover areas like Wakotphai, Chalwa, Gelbung, Phoikon, Selsi, Govajang, Kotlen and Teikhang, he added.
The veterinary team of ADC Sadar Hills began holding vaccination camps from June 9, he said.
He appealed the State Government and the authority concerned to initiate necessary measures to check the outbreak at the earliest.
