Imphal, August 11 2016 :
All Naga
Students' Association Manipur
(ANSAM) and Kuki Students
Organisation (KSO/GHQ)
have taken strong exception to
the delay in appointment of the
newly recruited lecturers.
In a joint statement, the two
student bodies said that the
lecturers were selected
through due procedures by
Manipur Public Service Com-
mission (MPSC).
However, issuance of ap-
pointment orders is delayed
although the selected candi-
dates have been issued offer
forms, it added.
The student bodies said
that the selected lecturers and
the Assistant Professors who
had already faced interview
are feeling anguished over the
dilly dallying state of affairs
in the appointment process.
It should be noted that
appointment of the selected
candidates is long overdue as
the recruitment process began
on September 2, 2014, the
bodies said.
The Government issued
notifications for the recruit-
ment of lecturers and
Assistant Professors to fill up
vacant ST seats in higher sec-
ondary schools and
Government colleges, it
added.
Accordingly, the recruit-
ment process was carried out
by MPSC as a sort of special
recruitment drive for ST can-
didates.
However the
recruitment process saw op-
position from some quarters
on the ground that the re-
served quota exceeded 50 per
cent which mired the recruit-
ment process in controversy,
the two student bodies said.
As a result the appointment
of the selected lecturers has
been hindered and the result
of the interview for the As-
sistant Professors has been
kept in abeyance, it added.
The student bodies cau-
tioned the authority concerned
to settle the matter promptly.
It is imperative that the Gov-
ernment sets aside the
controversy and stands by its
own statute to make sure that
the recruitment process cul-
minates successfully.
Otherwise the integrity and
credibility of the Government
shall be questioned, the stu-
dent bodies said.
Saying that the silence and
indifference of the State Gov-
ernment on the matter is
unacceptable, KSO and
ANSAM said that the State
Government must act fast,
failing which the two apex
tribal student bodies would be
compelled to resort to drastic
action.
