Despite some efforts, traffic woes continue

Imphal, August 11 2016 :
Despite all
the efforts of Traffic Control
Police to improve traffic control
system, vehicular traffic in
Imphal city has seen very little
improvement.
Some of the major areas
where Traffic Control Police
(TCP) have put in place extra
traffic control measures are
North AOC junction,
Chingmeirong junction,
Khoyathong junction, Kangla
Western Gate junction, GPO
junction, Nityaipat Chuthek
junction, Singjamei junction
and Wahengbam Leikai junc-
tion.
It is expected that effective
traffic control at these major
junctions can considerably
smoothen traffic flow in and
around the State capital.
Although certain changes
have been seen regarding traf-
fic control in Imphal city
during the last couple of
years, a systematic traffic
flow still remains a far
fetched dream.
The problem is further
aggravated by lack of civic
sense among the people.
Vehicles halting over or
beyond zebra crossings is a
common sight at almost all
the major traffic junctions al-
though vehicles should halt
before reaching the zebra
crossings.
High speed vehicles par-
ticular two wheelers speeding
away without paying any
heed to the halt signal is also
not uncommon.
Sometimes some people
show utter disrespect to traf-
fic rules and they even go to
the extent of taking up argu-
ments with traffic police
personnel.
With TCP introducing
new infrastructure for traffic
management, some people
have learnt to respect traffic
rules.
TCP personnel are now
equipped with wireless sets,
traffic signal fluorescent sticks and wheel clamps to deter parking at wrong
or unauthorised places.
