Three trafficked girls rescued, Addl SP appeals village elders

A team of Thoubal police
rescued three girls from two
traffickers at Kakching
Lamkhai.
In a statement, Rakesh
Balawal, Additional SP(Ops),
Thoubal said that the girls
were rescued after a source
reported of some minor girls
being trafficked from
Churachandpur to Moreh on
August 10.
A team of Thoubal police
including women police of-
ficers conducted a massive
operation wherein one sus-
pected Maruti Suzuki Ecco
was stopped at a check point
at Kakching Lamkhai.
One lady and a driver
identified as Thangkhumi
Mizo alias Thangi(56), w/o
(L) Sanga Mizo of Moreh
Ward No 3 and
Lalbaikliana(50), s/o (L)
Vanvel Thanga of Khawmawi
village, Churachandpur were
pulled up while the three girls
were rescued.
Upon questioning, Thangi
revealed that she has been
trafficking girls across the
border with the help of her
associates namely Sesei
Haokip(38) of Headquarters
Veng, Ccpur and Lalrohlul of
Appolo Veng, Ccpur New
Bazar.
She also revealed the
names of other agents who
would help in trafficking
girls.
Thangi further revealed
that she usually would hand
over the girls to one Puia at
Tamu.
The girls would be
then taken to Yangoon by ar-
ranging fake passports.
The Additiona SP said that
his team is investigating the
case to apprehend rest of the
traffickers by co-ordinating
with the respective district
police.
The traffickers would tar-
get poor families preferably
in remote hill areas by offer-
ing jobs in Singapore.
The
family is given Rs 5000.The
girls are handed over at Tamu
afterwhich agents from
Myanmar would take them to
Yangoon where other traf-
ficked girls other places are
brought.
Basic language
training is given and then
they are taken to different
places as per demand of the
trafficking industry, the Ad-
ditional SP informed.
He urged all the people
particularly village elders to
be vigilant and inform police
in case of any suspicious
people.
