Imphal, March 02 2019:
Irate women vendors of Tribal Market, New Checkon, staged a sit-in protest at the said market complex today condemning the failure of the authorities concerned to look after the grievances of the women vendors.
The protesters also demanded the resignation of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) Managing Director, Joseph Pauline, alleging that he no longer deserves to hold the post as he cannot run the Corporation effectively.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, Tribal Market Vendors Association (TMVA) secretary Thethem Vaiphei decried that the authorities concerned have failed to execute their responsibilities till date.
She went on to point out that wastes inside the dustbins, which are installed in the market complex, have not been removed or cleaned for more than a month now.
The failure to remove the wastes has resulted in various kinds of foul smell wafting through the whole market complex and thus posing a great disturbance to both the vendors and customers who come to shop in the market.
Further alleging that the Managing Director has created further problems in the market complex by issuing an order to enroll many more vendors against the wish of the TMVA, Thethem demanded immediate resignation of the incumbent Managing Director if he can no longer address the grievances of the vendors.
She also warned that TMVA, with the help of CSOs, may take up intense forms of agitation in the near future if the authorities concerned fail to address the grievances of the women vendors in the Tribal Market at the earliest.
