35 UG cadres in mass surrender to SF

Imphal, June 27 2011:
As many as 33 cadres of different UG groups today gave up arms and surrendered to Director General Police, Manipur Police Y Joykumar and Major General DS Hooda, GOC, 57 Mountain Division in a ceremony held at the Red Shield Auditorium at Leimakhong.
The surrender of the 33 UG cadres including Pakan Revolutionary Army, S/S Commander in Chief, Molum Anal was felicitated by 46 Assam Rifles under 27 Sector Assam Rifles, 17 JK Rifles and 3 MAHAR under 44 Mountain Brigade and 11 Assam Rifles under 59 Mountain Brigade respectively.
The surrendered cadres were one from FGN/NNC, two from NSCN-IM, eight from NSCN-K and 22 from PRA.
The cadres surrendered with 13 AK 56 rifles, one Bolt Action Rifle (Local Made), three 9 mm pistols with magazines (local made), five AK 56 magazines (30 round capacity), six AK 56 magazines of 20 round capacity, two AK 56 magazines of 10 round capacity, 59 rounds of AK 56 ammunition, three rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition, two handgrenades, four .22 pistols and one .22 rifle.
The surrendered cadres were S/S Corporal Thanghoi of FGN.NNC, S/S Lance Corporal Paubamying and 'Lance Corporal' Hialakpe of NSCN-IM, Esam Newme alias Something, Gayla Newme, 'Private' Numming Newme alias Obed, '2nd Lt' Namhasong Newme alias Rockey, 'Sergeant' Rockey Newme alias Jessy, 'Private' Mukam Chinin alias Akhuim, 'Private' Loyamchang and S/S 'Private' Haimoisap Newme of NSCN (K), S/S 'Brigadier' Molum Jetky Commander-in-Chief of PRA, Deputy Chief Abem, 'Major' Anil alias Nelpolian, 'Captain' Bebe alias Joesful, 'Captain' T James Kuki, 'Lt' Padola Kuki, 'Lt' Padola Kuki, '2nd Lt' Ricky alias Gin, 'Corporal' Latpao, 'Corporal' Haopu Kuki, 'Corporal' Lalboi Kuki, 'Lance Corporal' John Kuki alias John, 'Sep' Gogou Lamkang, 'Sep' Helen alias Lein, 'Sep' Lian Francis alias Francis, 'Sep' Ginnou Thankin, 'Sep' Saiboy Anal, 'Sep' Thengkhular Anal, 'Sep' Houneo Zou alias James, 'Sep' Tongmin Gangte alias Mimin, 'Sep' Angpu Lamkang and 'Sep' Naosang alias Amos of PRA.

DGP, Y Joykumar welcomed them into the national stream on behalf of the government and assured them and their families of an honourable rehabilitation.
Speaking on the occasion GOC, Major General DS Hooda, complimented them for their courage and wisdom in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state.
He assured them of all assistance in their rehabilitation process.
The GOC reiterated that the security forces on their part would continue to encourage all such endeavours by all insurgent groups, both collectively and individually and shall continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation and thence in their emergence as responsible citizens of the state.
The apparent compulsions, which may have motivated these youngsters in choosing the path of militancy in the past, and which may have had some relevance, in their per, is devoid of all such rationale in the present context.
The decision of these youth was lauded as a step in the right direction and it was felt that such events may act as harbingers of numerous such positive events in the future.
The event was attended by scores of media persons and army men.
The homecoming of these cadres gave a clear indication of the return of normalcy and peace in Manipur, the GOC added.
In another occasion, two active cadres of the proscribed PREPAK outfit surrendered to 10 Sector of HQ IGAR (South) on June 25 .
The surrendered cadres were identified as S/S Private Thokchom Anand (20) son of Thokchom Radhamani of Khangabok Part III Makha Leikai and S/S Private Moirangthem Mangangsana (28) son of Moirangthem Jila of Lamlongei Sabal Leikai, Lamsang.
Two Chinese 9 mm pistols and four live rounds of 9 mm were laid down by the surrenderees before the Assam Rifles authority.
