Imphal, June 27 2011:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has strongly condemned the frequent threats of armed group, PULF (PM Akbar) on media and newspaper distributors in Manipur.
In a statement, president of AMWJU A Mobi Singh said that AMWJU is an organisation set up for the welfare of the journalists.
But it also needs to facilitate discussion with editors of various media houses on whether certain news reports should be carried or not in due consideration of the prevailing armed conflict situation and existence of a large number of armed outfits that frequently lead to misunderstanding between media houses and the UG groups.
So, the constant threats of PULF (PM Akbar) group to AMWJU through the mobile phone number of a reporter known by it does not indicate the true character of a mature revolutionary group.
If PULF (PM Akbar) group or any other UG groups have any complaint against media house/s or editor/s or reporter/s, the matter could be brought to the notice of AMWJU for necessary clarification, the statement said.
The statement further observed that it would not be difficult for PULF (PM Akabar) group or any other UG group to approach AMWJU whose office is located in the building of Manipur Press Club at Major Khul.
The mobile phone no.of AMWJU president is 09206123606 and it remains on 24 hours .
For communication through e-mail, it could be done through any of the e-mail address of the newspapers published in Imphal.
This would be to the betterment of all and threats through SMS would not bring any solution.
