Lamka, June 27 2011:
As the 60 hours bandh call of COPTAM ended with a peaceful note, the committee today said despite the thumping support of the people, the Government has failed to respond and hinted on another form of agitation in the near future.
"It is very unfortunate to have SPF Government which disturbed land and rights of tribal and not in a position to pay attention to the grievances and genuine demands of tribals", said the committee's release today.
Acknowledging the support and co-operation from the general public during their bandh call which it said was for the cause of the tribals, despite the inconveniences, the COPTAM release said, "To die before dishonour should be our stand to protect our forefathers land and rights" .
It further thanked the media which covered and published the effect of their bandh in the hill districts of Manipur, and praised the individuals and organisations who extended their support during the 60 hours agitation.
