Imphal, June 27 2011:
"Peace is indispensable for development therefore all the communities of the state must love and live in harmonious coexistence", said Congress Working Committee member and Manipur in-charge Luizinho Faleiro Monday.
Speaking as chief guest at a state level political conference taking stock of the present situation in Manipur Faleiro said that India today is one of the richest and most economically developed countries of the world and this has been possible because of the Congress led UPA government at the Centre.
"India has doubled its agricultural output with the seamless application of new technology, therefore agricultural growth of the country is expected to further propel the overall economy", he said.
Various welfare measures have been introduced by the UPA government besides the 16 flagship programs, he said, adding that various development programmes are in the pipeline for Manipur besides the ongoing flagship programmes.
He went on to say that the people of the state have reposed their trust by giving an absolute majority to the Congress in different elections.
The Congress will work to usher in peace and development in the state, he said, and appealed to the people to support and rally behind the party in the coming general election.
Speaking in the same occasion at the Polo Ground in the heart of Imphal, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that compared to 2002 when the NDA government ruled at the Centre which was marked by a prolonged defaulting of government employees' salary, under the UPA government the state employees have been receiving their salaries every month.
Commenting on the Lokpal Bill, the Chief Minister said that "it is premature at this time for the bill to be passed by the Parliament" .
He said that the Jiri-Tupul railway line will be completed in 2014 and the Tupul-Imphal line in 2016, and he appealed to the people of Manipur to support and make the Congress stronger so that many more developmental steps can be brought to the state.
