Imphal, June 27 2011:
Supporting the course of Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS), State secretary of CPI and ex-Minister Dr M Nara exerted pressure on the State Government to adopt a definite resolution on re-introduction of Inner Line Permit system as well as for passing a Bill on land legislation in Manipur during the upcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly.
Addressing a press conference convened by FREINDS at his Singjamei Thongam Leikai residence today, Dr Nara asserted that reintroduction of Inner Line Permit system and review of the existing land law in Manipur have become two important issues that call for immediate attention.
So, the Govt of Manipur should ensure that a definite resolution on introduction of Inner Line Permit system is adopted and a Bill is passed on reviewing of the land law during the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.
Assuring that CPI Manipur would also ensure that these two important issues are brought up for discussion in the Assembly, Dr Nara observed that it is the right of the people to protect their identity and the commitment of his party to ensure this.
He further observed that failure of implementing a uniform land law in Manipur would have serious repercussion in future.
There is also the need for land reforms in the State, Dr Nara added.
FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani, who was also present during the press conference, pointed that reintroduction of Inner Line Permit system is essential to stop influx of outsiders whose number have even corssed the population of some indigenous communities.
When Inner Line Permit system has already been put in place in neighbouring States like Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, why there has to be any delay in Manipur ?, he questioned.
When efforts are being made for the protection of the endagered Sangais in Keibul Lamjao, why can't similar efforts be made for protection of the indigenous people from the onslaught of outsiders?, he further questioned.
